 Well today was fun. I signed my oldest boy up for a reading program at his school so today we went to the library in our neighborhood and got him his first book for his reading challenge.
I walk in and stop by the front desk as I always do. I look through all the books they have for sale. See, I suppose that when a book gets permanently shelved, the library instead puts them out on display hoping someone will adopt them and take them home. In this selection, I find three books that are on my TBR list. All three are part of the Vampire Academy series (not in order). Luckily, the first book in the series was one of them. Want to know how much? $3....yes, three whole dollars. Hmmm...yes you can bag those for me.
Then, we decided to go bargain shopping. The main road that runs through our little town is US 40. Apparently, once a year, the families that live on US 40 get together and have garage sales. This stretches from Greenfield to Richmond. Which if you don't know is a very long way. We didn't quite go that far but we did have fun looking (and buying) all the little treasures along the way. Well, we get into Knightstown and there is this little second hand book store. And what do you think I did? Of course I stopped in, you know, just to see what they had. I look and look but can't quite seem to set my interest on anything. This is a very strange feeling for me. Then, when I think all hope is lost, I look and there is this interesting little bookshelf and on it some "New Arrivals". So, I look through them and find three books that have three novels each in them. I have not heard of these books but I have heard of the author, L.J Smith (author of the Vampire Diaries). So, in all, I got 9 novels in three books. How much? Drum roll please....$7. I know you think you are having a heart attack but I promise it is just palpitations.
But it doesn't stop there. We then resume our garage sales and find more and more stuff we don't have the room for. Just when I had given up on finding good books on deep sale, I come across this little box in a front yard. I see a bunch of kids books and such, but at the bottom, there is this little book set. I had already owned "The Lovely Bones" but it also came with another book I have not heard of in a cute little collectible box. Well, lets see how much because it isn't marked. Wait...how much? $1!! Are you serious?!?! Sold.
So, all in all I got 8 books (14 total stories) for $11. I have to say that is one of the best hauls I have done so far. So, I added these to my book jar and can't wait to read them. I think if the stories are even somewhat enjoyable, they were still worth the price I paid for them.

Kathleen McGowan is an American author. Her novel The Expected One sold over a million copies worldwide and has appeared in over fifty languages. She claims to be a descendant of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. This book promised historical references, historical facts, unknown information about Mary Magdalene, and a great fictional story; all of which was delivered as promised. Take a trip through France, Ireland, and Jerusalem. See the sights of the temples, museums, and historical spots we have all known of through time. Open your hearts and your minds to the impossible. There is a lot of debate over the idea that the content of this book provides. I cannot 100% say that I believe everything that is said in this book. I cannot completely back all of the said "facts" without my own proof that all of it is true. Do I believe that it is possible that Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife and not just his Apostle? Well sure. Jesus was the "Son of Man." It is negligent to believe that a man of God would have a woman in his bed without approval of the church and God. There is much more to Jesus Christ than what the Bible tells you. I have always believed that.There are a lot of books out there that tell a similar story but not as in-depth. The Catholic Church has kept a lot of information from people to conserve the church and its position in the world. But it is not to say what all of that information is. We can speculate until we are blue in the face but it will not solve anything. So, please go into this book with an open mind. If not for the story line than at least for the history lesson provided. This book is very important if any of what is in the book is true. We have all had the beliefs set before us and passed down from generation to generation. This book blows those beliefs apart. It pulls the rug out from underneath us. This book certainly opened my eyes to a far different reality than what I was taught. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the fictional story but the story doesn’t hold a candle to the content if what is being said is really true. This book appeals to the conspiracy theorists. To the people who look outside the box. No one wants to feel like they are a part of the herd. Everyone is taught to have independent thought and opinion, yet there are so many who believe only one side of the story and won’t even listen to the other half. Those close-minded people are who make organized religion as we know it. Don’t get me wrong. There is a very goof historical fiction story behind all of this, but sometimes I had to put the book down simply because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This book has not necessarily changed my mind about the content provided. I have always had my own beliefs but nothing to make them concrete. Until now. In conclusion, this book was a very deep read. This wasn’t a book I read in one night. I had to do my own research along the way as there were questions I had about some of the content. That made the book fun and informative. Something very hard to find in most books you pick off the shelf. I very much enjoyed the characters and the dialogue and relationship between them. There are a lot of twists and turns and mysteries revealed. Do not sell yourself short and get this book in your hands as quick as possible. Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ If you have time to need you have time to read!

 Ok. So, as everyone knows, Dan Brown's "Inferno" was recently released this month. I have all three of the previous books in the series. I have read "The DaVinci Code" and "Angels & Demons". I have yet to get to "The Lost Symbol". But, I wanted to own "Inferno" because it is the next book in the series.
Ok. I am trying to contain my excitement....here it goes:
I went to Barnes & Nobles today to get a cover for my Nook Tablet. I found a pretty good one that has pockets in it. Pretty awesome. So, as I am looking around, I see the "New Arrivals" bookshelf and on it is none other than.....Dan Brown's "Inferno". I debated for a long time (an hour walking around the store) as to whether or not I was going to purchase it. My dilemma comes in because I haven't paid full price for a book in like 15 years. I don't see the point in paying those prices when a little patience and determination will get the book for pennies on the dollar. Anyway, I tell my boys that I can't wait for this book to show up at Half Price Books because I had decided I wasn't going to pay full price for the book. So, after some further searching, we decide to leave.
I get a wild hair up my butt and decide that since HPB is on the way to the interstate, we are going to stop in and see what we can find. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in there and found "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova for $7.99. This was a major score for me as I have been looking for this book for quite some time. I happened to look over at their shelf of books to put away and low and behold there it is. I was elated!!
Ok. Back to what I was saying, I look around and find a few books that were on my TBR and decide it is time to go before I buy the whole store out. I am walking to the front and my oldest boy (10) says, "Hey. There are some new books over there." I look over and he is right. They have a whole bookshelf of "Best Sellers" so I decide I am going to check it out. It is on the way to the checkout anyway. I look for a while and don't find anything I want to I go to turn away. As I do....hold on...excitement is rising again...I look up at the top...oh man...there it is!!!!! Dan Brown's "Inferno"!!!! Holy mackerel!! It's only $15!!!
I wouldn't kid you. I about fell over on myself. My oldest looks at me and is like, "Isn't that the one you were looking at at the other books store?" With tears in my eyes I look back at him and say, "Score!" Check out the pic below if you don't believe me..LOL
So needless to say, today is one of those days where anything can happen and I don't think it will ruin my mood. Just WOW.

Let me be the first to say...WOW!!! There is so much more to this story than what the excerpt is saying.
The story is about a girl names Paige. She spent her life growing up in a shelter for abused families that her parents run. As a young girl, she experienced loss when her best friend and first love, Buddy, was taken from her.
Paige works as a professional private investigator. She has two roommates, David and Annie, and an friend "with benefits" names Alex.
The story follows the day-to-day workings between the four of them. I really love David in this. He is the gay best friend I never had in my life and I wish I had a friend like him. Annie suffers from "can't find the right guy because she keeps picking the wrong one" syndrome and I feel sorry for her. But at the same time, it's her own fault as she won't look past her description of "the guy for her". Then there is Alex. he gets sucked into this web because he is in love with Paige and will accept whatever line she releases for him. This sounds really selfish and it is.
The story goes back and forth between real time and dreams that she has of times with Buddy. I am really glad that the dreams font is italicized so you can tell the difference between the two. The dreams open a little bit into Paige's past so you can get a sneak peak of the relationship between the two. You also get to find out what happened on that fateful day.
I like Paige's character in this story. She is strong and independent. But, I think this is taken too far at times. Where I like her strong personality (which helps later in the story), I think there are times in the book where she goes overboard. For example, when Daemon wants to help her off the speaker. There are times to be strong-willed and there are times when being strong-willed is taken completely out of context. This is one of those times. There are more examples of this as you go through the book. I think her "nature" gets her in a lot of trouble later on and could have been avoided if she would have just accepted the helping hand. But, don't get me wrong, it doesn't take away from the story and doesn't affect my 5 star rating of this book. I do want to say that in the next book, I hope Willis lets off of that some so she can be a more relateable character.
This book is very descriptive, The scenery and events going on around you are very well written so you think you are actually there. Willis did a very good job of "putting you there" in the way she describes what is going on.
"I had chosen a plain black tank top and my favorite pair of distressed dark blue jeans. At 5'10 and with a skinny frame, finding a pair of jeans that accented my butt and were long enough was a difficult task. When I found these, I bought two other pairs just like them because they fit so well. I pulled on my black knee high, lace-up riding boots and walked back into my bathroom to dry my hair. I left my long blond locks hanging loose down my back and applied some light mascara and lip gloss. After spritzing on some of my favorite perfume, I felt ready to go."
The rest of the book plays the same way. I like things to be descriptive so that I can really see and feel what is happening.
I do have to say the book starts very slowly. I want to say the idea was to get to know the characters and what happened in their day to day life but I'm not really sure. It takes a while to get to the plot of the story and when you get there, it falls a little short. I think there was more that could have been done with it and I hope it opens more in the second book. Then again, I wasn't looking at this like a mystery/thriller so I was a little taken back.
Then there is Daemon. Wait a minute....one more second....OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Can I get a little slice of that heaven every day?!?! I have to say I am in love with his character. Not only is he this masculine, controlling, male hard-on, but he is caring and sweet and so into Paige that you wish you were her. WOW. I'm really intrigued to find out some things about him that you learn throughout the story. And if it is what I think it is...I'm going to cyber-slap him!!! LOL...
All in all, I recommend everyone to read this. When it comes out I will post a link to buy it. You will not be sorry and you will not put it down until you are finished. I can promise you that.
